Rehearsal Schedule and Guidelines
Rehearsals are scheduled as follows:
- Monday evenings from 6:30 - 9:00 pm at the Timberline High School in Lacey, WA. The Director may schedule earlier times for certain sections as needed.
- One or more sectional rehearsals are held during the concert season that are led by Section Leaders.
- Two or more additional full choir rehearsals as concert dates approach, generally, the Sunday and Monday before a scheduled concert. One of these two rehearsals will serve as a dress/technical rehearsal to arrange details of staging, sound, and lighting. usually, concert dress is not worn at dress rehearsals for the December concert, but may be required if special costumes are included in the Spring concert.
- Alternative rehearsal dates, times, and/or locations will be announced in advance.
To help ensure the best performances possible, all members are expected to attend all rehearsals, arrive promptly, and stay for the entire time. Rehearsals are not simply opportunities to become familiar with notes and timing, but to develop fully as an ensemble as well. Absences and tardiness prevent those elements from progressing.
Two absences from rehearsals are the maximum allowed during each concert period. A member exceeding this limit will not be permitted to sing in the concert. If a member is not able to attend a rehearsal, they are expected to contact their section leader. Only the Director, on a case-by-case basis can make exceptions to this policy.
Music and Member Contributions to Concert Costs
To offset the escalating cost of music and other concert expenses, it is essential that each member make a non-refundable payment for each concert period in an amount to be determined by the Board of Directors. The specific amount will be announced during the first rehearsal. Members are encouraged to make their payment as soon as possible.
OCS will not exclude anyone from singing because of inability to make the payment. In the event of serious hardship, and at the specific request of the member, the payment amount may be reduced or waived on an as-needed basis. The Director has the sole discretion to adjust the amount of the donation or waive it altogether.
